Calculate Low Level Codes and Rolled up Lead Time

Once the Reverse Planning app is installed and activated in Business Central, the system will prompt you with a question:

Do you want to calculate low-level codes?

This step is important because low-level codes help the app understand the structure of your items and their dependencies, especially useful if you work with multi-level BOMs (Bills of Materials).
Calculating low-level codes ensures that planning suggestions are accurate and complete.

  • Yes - Recommended if you use production BOMs or have items that depend on other items. This ensures the app can plan across all levels of your item structure.
  • No - If your item setup is flat (no dependencies), you can skip this step.

You can always calculate low-level codes later by running the “Calculate Low-Level Code” action from the item list or item card.

After confirming the low-level code calculation, the app will ask:

Do you want to calculate Rolled-Up Lead Time?

Image

This step helps determine how long it takes to produce or procure an item, not just on its own, but including all its components. It’s especially useful for items with BOMs or multiple supply steps.

Rolled-up lead time gives you a more accurate picture of when an item can realistically be available. It includes:

  • Component lead times

  • Production or assembly time

  • Any delays from suppliers

    • Yes - Recommended if you want precise planning dates and work with manufactured or assembled items.
    • No - If you only deal with purchased items or don’t need detailed timing, you can skip this step.
Use filters to speed up the process

Before running the calculation, you can apply filters to limit which items are included. This is especially helpful in large item lists, as it reduces processing time and focuses the calculation on relevant items.

Introductory Video: How Reverse Planning Works

After the initial setup steps, you’ll be presented with a short introductory video that explains how the Reverse Planning app works.

This video gives a quick overview of the app’s core features and how it helps you identify and act on planning issues, such as missing supply, delayed deliveries, or urgent demand.

You have three options:

  • Watch now – Recommended if you're new to Reverse Planning or want a refresher.
  • Postpone – You can choose to be reminded again in 1 day.
  • Don’t show again – If you're already familiar with the app, you can skip the video permanently.
