DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector

Prev Next

Feature Overview

The DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector is a ready-made integration that connects Business Central to the DSV CargoWrite third-party logistics (3PL) warehouse platform. It builds directly on top of the Warehouse Manager app: instead of configuring a generic custom connector and writing your own integration, you create a connector and simply choose DSV CargoWrite Connector as its type. The connector then knows how to talk to DSV CargoWrite out of the box — sending item master data, pushing outbound shipments and inbound receipts, and pulling back status updates and confirmed quantities.

The integration runs through a free companion Power Automate app that Abakion publishes on Microsoft AppSource. Business Central never calls the DSV CargoWrite API directly; instead it sends each operation (send shipment, send receipt, sync items, update status, and so on) to a Power Automate flow, which performs the actual translation and communication with DSV CargoWrite and calls back into Business Central with the results. Because of this, the connector stores two sets of credentials: the DSV CargoWrite portal credentials (URL, Subscription Key, and Actor, all obtained from your DSV CargoWrite Warehouse Portal) and a BC login (Client Id and Client Secret from an Azure app registration) that the Power Automate flow uses to write results back into Business Central. All credentials are held securely in isolated storage rather than in plain table fields.

Once set up, the everyday flow is automatic. When a warehouse shipment or receipt for a DSV-linked location becomes ready, Business Central sends it to DSV CargoWrite without any manual step. Scheduled job queue entries then poll DSV CargoWrite on a recurring basis to bring back receiving confirmations, shipment statuses, and posted quantities — optionally auto-posting the documents in Business Central. Item data can be pushed on demand for a single item or for the whole catalog. Because DSV CargoWrite expects metric units, the connector automatically standardises its length, weight, and volume units to millimetres, grams, and cubic centimetres.

Getting Started

  1. Install the DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector app, and from the Connector Card (or the setup wizard) follow the link to install the free DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector Power Automate app from Microsoft AppSource — both are required.
  2. Run the assisted setup Activate DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector (Business Central will also prompt you with a reminder until it is activated). Enter your email address and choose Activate Trial to start the 30-day free trial. This activates both the connector and Warehouse Manager.
  3. Open Warehouse Manager Setup. Make sure a Length Unit of Measure is set, then enable the DSV CargoWrite toggle to switch the connector on.
  4. From Warehouse Manager Setup, open the Connectors list and create a new connector. In the Type field choose DSV CargoWrite Connector — this automatically marks it as a Warehouse Manager connector and sets the units to millimetres, grams, and cubic centimetres.
  5. In the DSV CargoWrite Setup group on the connector, enter the Url (it must start with https://api.dsv.com/sol/), the Subscription Key, and the Actor — all three come from your DSV CargoWrite Warehouse Portal.
  6. In the BC Login Information group, enter the BC Client Id and BC Client Secret from the Azure app registration your IT department or Azure partner has created. The Power Automate flow uses these to write results back into Business Central.
  7. Enter the Power Automate flow endpoint in the connector's URL Dispatcher field (provided by the companion Power Automate app), and set the Error message recipients who should be notified if an operation fails.
  8. Enable the sync flags you need: Sync Items, Sync Warehouse Shipments, and Sync Warehouse Receipts. If Business Central should post documents automatically once DSV confirms them, also enable the Post flags.
  9. Link your DSV-managed locations to this connector on the Warehouse Connector Links page (see the Connector Setup & Location Linking article).
  10. Choose Sync Items on the connector to push your item catalogue, then choose Create Job Queue Entries to schedule the recurring updates that bring shipment and receipt confirmations back from DSV CargoWrite.

Related Features

This connector is an extension of Warehouse Manager and cannot run on its own. The Connector Setup & Location Linking feature provides the connector record and the location links that this app builds on — you select DSV CargoWrite Connector as the connector type and link your DSV-managed locations there. Warehouse Shipments & Receipts with 3PL defines the document workflow (ready-to-send, confirm, post) that triggers the outbound calls to DSV CargoWrite and consumes the confirmations that come back. Item synchronisation reuses Warehouse Manager's item-publishing data so the DSV warehouse always has current master data. For activation, licensing, and the trial reminder, the connector relies on the shared Abakion App Manager components used across all Abakion apps.

User Stories

US-01: Install and activate the DSV CargoWrite connector

As a Business Central administrator
I want to install and activate the DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector
So that I can start a free trial and begin configuring the integration

Setup:

  1. Install the DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector app in your environment.
  2. When the role center shows the reminder "DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector has been installed but not yet activated", choose Activate DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector now — or search for and run the Activate DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector assisted setup.
  3. Enter your Email Address. If you are a partner enabling this for a client, switch on I am a partner activating this on behalf of a client and enter the partner email.
  4. Choose Activate Trial to start the 30-day free trial, then Finish.

Note: Activating the trial here also activates Warehouse Manager, since the connector depends on it. Activation does not commit you to a subscription.

US-02: Install the companion Power Automate app

As a Business Central administrator
I want to install the free DSV CargoWrite Power Automate app
So that Business Central has the flow that actually communicates with DSV CargoWrite

Setup:

  1. On the Connector Card, choose Power Automate app (also available from the final step of the setup wizard).
  2. This opens the DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector Power Automate app listing on Microsoft AppSource.
  3. Install the app and complete its configuration as described in its documentation.

Note: The integration is not complete without this companion app — Business Central sends every operation to the Power Automate flow, which performs the real exchange with DSV CargoWrite.

US-03: Switch on the connector in Warehouse Manager Setup

As a Warehouse Manager
I want to enable the DSV CargoWrite connector on Warehouse Manager Setup
So that the DSV CargoWrite connector type and actions become available

Setup:

  1. Search for and open Warehouse Manager Setup.
  2. In the activated-connectors area, enable DSV CargoWrite.
  3. Make sure the Length Unit of Measure field on Warehouse Manager Setup has a value — it is required before the connector can send documents.

Note: If the connector is not enabled here, attempting to send to DSV CargoWrite results in the error "DSV CargoWrite Connector is not activated on Warehouse Manager Setup."

US-04: Create a DSV CargoWrite connector

As a IT Manager
I want to create a connector and set its type to DSV CargoWrite
So that the connector is pre-wired with DSV CargoWrite behaviour and units

Setup:

  1. From Warehouse Manager Setup, open the Connectors list.
  2. Create a new connector with a descriptive ID and Description.
  3. In the Type field, choose DSV CargoWrite Connector.

Note: Choosing this type automatically sets the manager type to Warehouse Manager and fixes the units to MM (length), G (weight), and CM3 (volume), because DSV CargoWrite requires metric values. These unit fields cannot be changed for a DSV connector.

US-05: Enter the DSV CargoWrite portal credentials

As a IT Manager
I want to enter the URL, Subscription Key, and Actor from the DSV CargoWrite portal
So that the Power Automate flow can authenticate against DSV CargoWrite

Setup:

  1. Open the DSV CargoWrite connector and find the DSV CargoWrite Setup group.
  2. Enter the Url — it must begin with https://api.dsv.com/sol/, otherwise Business Central rejects it.
  3. Enter the Subscription Key and the Actor, both found in your DSV CargoWrite Warehouse Portal.

Note: The Subscription Key is stored securely in isolated storage, not as readable text on the record.

US-06: Enter the BC login the flow uses to call back

As a IT Manager
I want to register the BC Client Id and Client Secret on the connector
So that the Power Automate flow can write confirmations and statuses back into Business Central

Setup:

  1. Have your Azure partner or IT department create an Azure app registration for Business Central API access.
  2. On the connector, open the BC Login Information group.
  3. Enter the BC Client Id and BC Client Secret from that app registration.

Note: Both values are stored securely in isolated storage. They identify Business Central to the Power Automate job, not to DSV CargoWrite.

US-07: Connect the Power Automate dispatcher

As a IT Manager
I want to point the connector at the Power Automate flow endpoint
So that outbound operations are delivered to the flow that talks to DSV CargoWrite

Setup:

  1. Obtain the flow endpoint URL from the companion Power Automate app.
  2. On the connector, enter it in the URL Dispatcher field.
  3. Set Error message recipients to the email addresses that should be notified when an operation fails.

Note: Every operation — send shipment, send receipt, sync items, status update, cancel — is posted to this dispatcher URL.

US-08: Link a DSV-managed location to the connector

As a Warehouse Manager
I want to link the Business Central locations DSV operates to this connector
So that warehouse documents for those locations are routed to DSV CargoWrite

Setup:

  1. From Warehouse Manager Setup, open Warehouse Connector Links (Third Party Logistics → Warehouses).
  2. Add a line for each DSV-managed location and set its Connector ID to the DSV CargoWrite connector.
  3. Verify or adjust the External ID to match DSV's identifier for that location if it differs from the BC location code.

Note: Location linking is provided by Warehouse Manager — see the Connector Setup & Location Linking article for full details.

US-09: Choose which document flows to integrate

As a Logistics Coordinator
I want to enable only the sync flows I have agreed with DSV
So that Business Central only sends the document types DSV expects

Setup:

  1. Open the DSV CargoWrite connector.
  2. Enable Sync Items if DSV should receive your item master data.
  3. Enable Sync Warehouse Shipments for outbound shipment integration.
  4. Enable Sync Warehouse Receipts for inbound receipt integration.

Note: Each flow only runs when its flag is enabled. For example, a warehouse shipment that becomes ready is only sent if Sync Warehouse Shipments is on.

US-10: Synchronise the whole item catalogue to DSV CargoWrite

As a Warehouse Manager
I want to push all items to DSV CargoWrite at once
So that the warehouse has my complete, current item master data

Setup:

  1. Open the DSV CargoWrite connector.
  2. Make sure Sync Items is enabled.
  3. Choose the Sync Items action and confirm.

Note: The synchronisation is handed to the Power Automate flow and runs in the background; a confirmation message indicates it has been initiated.

US-11: Synchronise a single item from the Item Card

As a Warehouse Manager
I want to push one specific item to DSV CargoWrite
So that a new or changed item is updated without re-sending the whole catalogue

Setup:

  1. Open the Item Card for the item.
  2. Choose Sync Item to DSV CargoWrite (also available as a promoted action) and confirm.

Note: This action is only visible when a DSV CargoWrite connector exists, and it requires Sync Items to be enabled on that connector.

US-12: Send a warehouse shipment to DSV automatically

As a Warehouse operator
I want to have warehouse shipments sent to DSV CargoWrite as soon as they are ready
So that the external warehouse can pick and ship without manual hand-off

Setup:

  1. Create and release the warehouse shipment for a DSV-linked location as usual in Warehouse Manager.
  2. When the shipment reaches the Ready to Send connector status, Business Central automatically posts it to the Power Automate dispatcher.

Note: This happens automatically only when the location's connector is a DSV CargoWrite connector and Sync Warehouse Shipments is enabled.

US-13: Send a warehouse receipt to DSV automatically

As a Warehouse operator
I want to have warehouse receipts sent to DSV CargoWrite when they are ready
So that the external warehouse knows what inbound goods to expect

Setup:

  1. Create and release the warehouse receipt for a DSV-linked location.
  2. When it reaches the Ready to Send connector status, Business Central automatically sends it to the Power Automate dispatcher.

Note: Requires Sync Warehouse Receipts to be enabled on the connector.

US-14: Bring back confirmations and post documents automatically

As a Warehouse Manager
I want to have DSV confirmations posted in Business Central automatically
So that receipts and shipments are posted as goods are physically handled, without manual posting

Setup:

  1. On the connector, enable Post Warehouse Shipments and/or Post Warehouse Receipts.
  2. Ensure the recurring update job queue entries are running (see next story).

Note: When auto-posting is enabled, the confirmed quantity updates pulled back from DSV CargoWrite are posted automatically in Business Central. Leave these off if you prefer to review before posting.

US-15: Schedule recurring updates with job queue entries

As a Business Central administrator
I want to schedule the recurring polls that pull updates from DSV CargoWrite
So that receipt confirmations, shipment updates, and statuses come back automatically

Setup:

  1. Open the DSV CargoWrite connector.
  2. Choose Create Job Queue Entries.
  3. This creates three recurring entries — Update WH Receipts, Update WH Shipments, and Update Status on Shipments — that run on a recurring schedule.

Note: The entries are created ready to run. Review them in the Job Queue Entries list if you need to adjust the schedule or starting time.

US-16: Receive incremental status and quantity updates

As a Warehouse Manager
I want to pull only the changes since the last successful sync
So that updates are efficient and nothing is processed twice

Setup:

  1. Ensure the recurring update job queue entries are active.
  2. No manual configuration is required — the connector tracks the date of the most recent inbound activity for shipments and for receipts and uses it as the starting point for the next poll.

Note: The status-update job also tells DSV whether documents should be auto-posted, based on the connector's Post flags.

US-17: Control who is notified when an operation fails

As a Logistics Coordinator
I want to define who receives error notifications from the integration
So that the right people are alerted when a send or update fails

Setup:

  1. Open the DSV CargoWrite connector.
  2. Enter one or more addresses in Error message recipients.

Note: These recipients are passed to the Power Automate flow with each outbound operation, so error handling in the flow can notify them.

US-18: Understand and rely on enforced metric units

As a IT Manager
I want to know that the connector standardises units automatically
So that dimensions and weights are always sent to DSV CargoWrite in the units they expect

Setup:

  1. Create or open a DSV CargoWrite connector.
  2. Note that the length, weight, and volume units are fixed to MM, G, and CM3.

Note: The connector enforces these units when the type is selected and re-applies them on upgrade, so they cannot drift to non-metric values. The matching units of measure (Millimeter, Gram, Cubic Centimeter) are created automatically when the app is installed.

US-19: Manage the activation reminder

As a Business Central administrator
I want to postpone or dismiss the activation reminder
So that I am reminded at a convenient time or not at all

Setup:

  1. When the "installed but not yet activated" notification appears on the role center, choose one of:
    • Activate DSV CargoWrite 3PL Connector now to open the setup wizard;
    • Remind me in 1 day to postpone;
    • Don't show this again to stop the reminders.

Note: Choosing Don't show this again stops reminders but you can still activate later from the assisted setup list.

US-20: Monitor connector activity

As a Warehouse Manager
I want to see what has been exchanged with DSV CargoWrite
So that I can confirm syncs are working and investigate issues

Setup:

  1. Use Warehouse Manager's activity logging to review the inbound and outbound entries recorded for the DSV CargoWrite connector.
  2. Check the date of the most recent inbound shipment and receipt activity to confirm the recurring updates are running.

Note: Activity logging is provided by Warehouse Manager — see the Warehouse Shipments & Receipts with 3PL article for how the document workflow and logging fit together.
