New Features New Features

Case Work

New report: Open Matters with Zero Balance (3449)+

A new report, Open Matters with Zero Balance, makes it possible to find matters where the open entries actually net to zero but have not yet been applied in the system.

The report can be run from the Client Card, Client List, Matter Contact Card and Matter List. You specify an End Date and a Matter Balance Tolerance (how much a matter's total remaining balance may deviate from 0), and the report only shows the matters that fall within the tolerance. Under each matter you can see the related entries and a balance line.

Additional options make it possible to show amounts in the reporting currency, include entries with a remaining amount of 0, and include entries where an application has been unapplied after the End Date.

The matter department is now retrieved from the employee's current department dimension (3730)+

When an employee is assigned to a matter via the relation type that is set up to control the matter's department, the department on the matter is now set based on the department stated in the employee's Default Dimensions. Previously, the department was determined from the employee's department history, so a former department could be used.

When the department is created as a default dimension on the matter, Value Posting is no longer set to Same Code but is left blank. This means that it is possible to post to the matter with a different department code than the one stated on the matter.

The change only applies to new assignments of the relation. The department on existing matters is not changed.

Setup Tools

New group setup template so that user setup can be filled in automatically based on Entra groups (3713)+

A new feature has been added that allows administrators to define a default setup for an entire Entra group instead of setting up each user manually. The setup is created as a Group Setup Template with the same fields as User Setup, and the template is linked to an Entra group via the Azure Group Name field. Remember to update the Azure groups via Update from Microsoft 365, which can be run directly from the template card and the template list.

When a new user is created, or if an existing user is missing User Setup, the applicable template is automatically copied into the user's setup. The user is matched to the Entra group via Authentication E-Mail, so this field must be filled in correctly. If the user is a member of several groups, the template with the lowest number in the Priority field wins. If the priority is equal, the oldest template wins.

For existing users, you can open the template's Members and select Update All Members. The list only shows group members who have a corresponding Business Central user. The Deviates From Template column shows whether the user's setup deviates, and the Deviating Fields FactBox shows which fields are involved. Users who deviate and have been changed since the last update are by default marked with Excluded From Update and are skipped. The Other Group Wins column shows if another group's template takes precedence for the user.

After copying, there is no ongoing synchronization. Changes to the template only take effect when Update All Members is run again.

Use BC's own AI resources instead of a separate Azure AI subscription (3718)+

It is no longer necessary to create a separate Azure AI subscription to use the AI features in Abakion Legal. The solution now uses Business Central's own built-in AI resources instead, which makes the setup considerably simpler.

As part of the AI feature for correcting time entries, a draft function has also been added: when the AI suggests corrections, the user can review them in a draft before they take effect, and choose which corrections to apply.

Invoicing

The Time Specification report now supports fee reduction (3695)+

On invoices with fee reduction, the Time Specification previously showed all time entries, regardless of whether they were covered by the reduction. This has now been fixed.

The report now filters out time entries in the same way as the invoice itself — i.e. entries that are excluded via the matter's Billing Method (e.g. certain job titles or work types) are no longer shown in the time specification and are not included in the totals.

The fix applies to both draft invoices and posted invoices, and also works correctly when consolidating several matters on one invoice.

The billing method can now control whether excluded time entries are only omitted from the time specification or also deducted from the amount to be allocated (3719)+

A new field, Reduce Fee, has been added to Billing Method, making it possible to control exactly how time entries from selected employees or work types affect invoicing.

Previously, these time entries were always omitted from the time specification, with no option to choose whether they should also be deducted from the amount to be allocated. Now you can select Reduce Fee if the amount for the same time entries should also be deducted from the amount to be allocated — if the field is not selected, the entries are still only omitted from the time specification, as before.

In this connection, the filter field captions on the billing method have been renamed to Time Entry Exclusion for Selected Employees and Time Entry Exclusion for Selected Work Types, and the tooltips on the billing method, matter card and matter list have been updated accordingly.

The field can advantageously be combined with Transfer Allocation Value to Other Employees on Employee Types. By selecting both fields for an employee type that should not receive fees — e.g. secretaries — these employees' time entries are completely hidden on the time specifications, while their allocation value is transferred to the other employees.

The matter heading in the time specification can now be hidden via the new Hide Matter Heading option (3733)+

The time specification shows a heading for each individual matter by default. This may be undesirable, e.g. on consolidated invoices, where Regarding Matter from the draft invoice already serves as the heading. A new option, Hide Matter Heading, has therefore been added, so you can choose whether the matter heading should be shown or not. The choice applies to all invoices, including those with only one matter.

You can set the default value in Report Selection - Time Specification. When you print the time specification, you can choose differently from time to time under Options. The default value is taken from the first invoice in your filter. When the time specification is saved automatically at posting, the default value from the setup is always used.

Standard layouts for the time specification (both posted and draft) have been updated to support the option.

A new key has been added to Job Ledger Entries, supporting more efficient data lookups (3738)+

A new key has been added to Job Ledger Entries. The key consists of the fields for line type and original line number and is used in the background to sort and look up data more efficiently.

The change is technical and does not affect how you work in the solution. No new fields have been added, and existing fields and keys have not been changed, so you do not need to do anything in connection with the update.

Finance

Estate Liability Trial Balance now lets you choose whether the opening balance should be calculated (3712)+

The Estate Liability Trial Balance always calculated the opening balance automatically, without the user being able to turn it on or off.

The report has now been fixed so that the user must actively choose whether the opening balance should be calculated when the report is run.

Bug Fixes Bug Fixes

Case Work

Archiving of a matter was blocked by incomplete time entries (2478)+

When archiving a matter, the process was previously blocked if the matter had time entries that had not been synchronized to job ledger entry lines — even when this was because the entry was incomplete, e.g. missing a work type or description.

The check now distinguishes between the two situations. Time entries that are correctly filled in but are simply awaiting transfer still block archiving as before (or are settled automatically if Settle Time on Archiving is enabled). Incomplete time entries, however, no longer block archiving — they are left on the matter, and an informational note is instead added to the error text field of the Archive Log stating how many incomplete time entries were ignored. The remaining entries are cleaned up automatically on an ongoing basis via the Synchronization Queue.

Invoicing

VAT correction with 100% VAT on a sales invoice failed at posting (3720)+

When posting a VAT correction with 100% VAT on a sales invoice, the posting could fail.

The error has now been fixed, so that VAT corrections with 100% VAT can be posted correctly on sales invoices.

Finance

Balance (After) in the general journal showed an incorrect amount when lines had Balancing Account filled in (3639)+

Balance (After) at the bottom of the general journal could show an incorrect amount. The amount depended on which other lines were in the journal and how Bal. Account No. was filled in on them. The same journal could therefore show both a correct and an incorrect balance.

The cause was that the calculation did not include the lines that balance against the account you are currently on when the account type on the line and on the balancing account were different. This applied, for example, to a G/L account line with a customer as the Balancing Account. The offsetting entries were therefore not included in Balance (After). The calculation now takes the account type into account, so the balance is correct regardless of how Balancing Account is filled in on the other lines.

At the same time, a similar filter in the calculation of the balancing account's balance has been fixed, so that lines without an account number can no longer affect the balance on a line that has not yet been saved.

Global Dimension 1 was not set correctly when creating a new G/L account (3698)+

When creating a new G/L account, the administration code (Global Dimension 1) was not always set automatically based on the selected filter in the Chart of Accounts overview.

This has now been fixed, so that a new G/L account correctly inherits the administration code from the active filter, regardless of whether the account is created directly from the Chart of Accounts or from the G/L Account Card itself.

This means, for example, that the G/L account automatically gets the administration code filled in when a new account is created from the law firm's own chart of accounts.
