Setting Up a Sales Company

Feature Overview

In the Intercompany app, a Sales Company is the company that originates the transaction flow. It holds the customer relationship and the sales order — when a customer places an order with the Sales Company, the app automatically transforms that sales order into a purchase order directed at the Supply Company (the warehouse/inventory partner). The Sales Company never touches the warehouse directly; instead it relies on the IC flow to trigger procurement, fulfilment, and the return of shipment and invoice confirmations. Every Sales Company must be paired with at least one Supply Company, and the setup must be completed in both companies before live transactions can run.

The Intercompany Setup Guide (the Assisted Setup wizard) performs the heavy lifting when configuring a Sales Company. For a Sales Company, the wizard creates: a Purchasing Code marked as Drop Shipment and flagged for Intercompany use; a Vendor record representing the Supply Company partner (the "IC Supply" vendor); an IC Partner record linked to that vendor; and — optionally — Item Vendor entries that associate every item in the catalogue with the IC Supply vendor, making all items immediately available for intercompany purchasing. The wizard also populates the standard IC Setup record with the correct company type and default buy-from vendor, and it sets the Check-Avail. Period Calc. on Company Information if that field is blank. No manual table editing is required for the core setup.

After the wizard completes, the Intercompany Setup page (the standard BC IC Setup page, extended by the Intercompany app) becomes the ongoing control centre for the Sales Company. It groups the app's additional fields into four fast tabs — General, Purchase, Automatics, and Features — alongside the standard IC Partner Code field. From this page, administrators can confirm the company type, tune how outgoing purchase transactions are handled, control receipt posting date behaviour, switch on automation shortcuts, and enable web-order support. A license and activation check runs when the page opens; if the app has not been activated through its own installation wizard, the IC-specific fields are hidden until activation is complete.

Getting Started

Follow these steps to configure a Sales Company using the Assisted Setup wizard and then review the resulting IC Setup.

  1. Open the Assisted Setup list. Use the Tell Me search (Alt+Q) and type Assisted Setup. Locate the entry Set up Abakion Intercompany and click it. If the app has never been activated, the activation wizard opens first — complete it before proceeding.

  2. Read the introduction. The wizard opens on the Welcome to Intercompany App Setup step. Read the note that the setup must be completed in at least two companies. Click Next.

  3. Select the company type. On the Intercompany type step, set the Select Intercompany type field to Sales. This choice controls which subsequent steps appear and which master data the wizard will create.

  4. Set your own IC Partner Code. On the Intercompany Partner Information for THIS company step, enter the IC Partner Code that identifies this Sales Company. This code must match what the Supply Company will configure as its partner code for you — for example, SALES01. Click Next.

  5. Set the supply partner's IC Partner Code. On the Create Intercompany Partner step, enter or look up the IC Partner Code of the Supply Company — for example, SUPPLY01. If a partner record with that code already exists, the wizard asks whether to modify the existing record or delete it and create a new one. Click Next.

  6. Configure the IC Vendor. On the Configure an Intercompany Vendor step, enter or look up the vendor number that will represent the Supply Company in this company — for example, IC00010. You may type a new number to create a new vendor. Click Next.

  7. Select posting groups and location. Still on the vendor step, choose:

    • Vendor Posting Group — the posting group for intercompany purchase transactions.
    • Vendor Gen. Business Posting Group — the Gen. Business Posting Group applied to the IC vendor.
    • Vendor Location Code — the default location for inbound IC receipts.
Click Next after completing each sub-step.
  8. Decide on G/L Account mapping. On the Choose if G/L Account Mapping should take place step, set Create IC G/L Account Entries? to Yes if your Chart of Accounts is identical to the Supply Company's. This creates a 1-to-1 IC G/L Account map for every G/L Account. Click Next.

  9. Decide on Item Vendor entries. On the Choose if Item Vendor Entries should be created for all items step, set Create Item Vendor Entries? to Yes to add the IC Supply vendor to every item's vendor list. This makes all items immediately eligible for intercompany replenishment without item-by-item configuration. Click Next.

  10. Configure the Purchasing Code. On the Configure a Purchasing Code for purchasing activity step, enter or select a Purchasing Code — for example, IC-DROP. The wizard will create this code as a Drop Shipment, non-Special Order purchasing code and flag it for Intercompany use. Click Next.

  11. Create the setup. On the final You are now through the basic configuration step, review the summary text and click Create. The wizard calls the Assisted Setup engine, which creates all master data in a single transaction. When complete, the Configure the connection between companies page opens automatically, listing the three manual post-setup steps: create a Microsoft Entra App registration (for OAuth 2.0), configure the Web Service fields on the IC Partner Card using the Connect Externally Setup action, and create a Microsoft Entra Application User for the IC connection.

  12. Review the IC Setup page. After dismissing the connection guide, open Intercompany Setup (search via Tell Me). Verify:

    • IC Partner Code shows the code you entered in step 4.
    • IC Company Type is set to Sales Company.
    • Default Buy-From Vendor No. shows the IC vendor created in step 6.
    • Receipt posting date is set to Document Date (the wizard default).
    • Dimension Handling is set to 1-1 (the wizard default).
    • Auto Transfer Outbox Transactions is enabled.
    • Auto Accept Outbox Export Confirmation is enabled.
Adjust any field that does not reflect your intended configuration.

Related Features

The Sales Company setup is the starting point of the IC configuration, but it only becomes operational once the corresponding Supply Company has been configured (see Setting Up a Supply Company, article 3). After both companies have run their respective Assisted Setup wizards, a partner-level connection must be established by completing the Web Service fields on each IC Partner Card — that per-partner configuration is covered in Configuring IC Partners (article 4).

Once both company setups and partner connections are in place, the Sales Company's released sales orders drive the end-to-end transaction flow: the IC app converts them into purchase orders sent to the Supply Company, which fulfils and invoices them, returning shipment and invoice confirmations to close the loop — the full sequence is described in The Intercompany Transaction Flow (article 6).

The Sales & Supply Company type in the IC Company Type field (visible on the Intercompany Setup page) supports a single company acting in both roles simultaneously, for example in a hub-and-spoke arrangement where one entity both sells to end customers and sources from an external supplier through the IC mechanism — configuring that variant follows the same wizard process but selects the combined type after setup.

User Stories

  1. As a system administrator, I want to run the Intercompany Setup Guide in a Sales Company so that all required master data is created for me without manual table editing.

  2. As a system administrator, I want to understand which records the wizard creates for a Sales Company — a Purchasing Code, an IC Supply vendor, and an IC Partner — so that I can verify the output against our naming conventions before going live.

  3. As a system administrator, I want to set IC Company Type to Sales Company on the Intercompany Setup page so that the app behaves correctly and shows the right fields throughout the system.

  4. As a system administrator, I want to configure the Default Buy-From Vendor No. field so that purchase orders generated from IC sales orders are automatically directed to the correct Supply Company vendor without user intervention.

  5. As a system administrator, I want to understand the three options for Auto Import IC Inbox on the IC Partner card — No Handling, Handle with Job Queue, and Handle with Web Service — so that I can choose the right processing mode for our environment.

  6. As a system administrator, I want to understand how the Job Queue entry for IC inbox processing works — including that it is non-recurring and fires on demand when a transaction arrives — so that I can confirm the correct Job Queue entry exists and is in a ready state.

  7. As a system administrator, I want to configure Dimension Handling on the Intercompany Setup page — choosing between None (using legacy Map-to IC Dimension Code/Value mapping) and 1-1 (automatic pass-through of dimension values) — so that dimension behaviour matches our reporting setup.

  8. As a system administrator, I want to set IC Company Type to Sales & Supply Company when a single company acts in both the sales and supply roles, so that the app handles outbound purchase orders and inbound sales orders within the same company.

  9. As a system administrator, I want to enable Auto Transfer Outbox Transactions so that IC outbox transactions are sent to the partner automatically as soon as they are created, removing the manual transfer step.

  10. As a system administrator, I want to enable Auto Accept Outbox Export Confirmation so that the confirmation prompt when exporting from the IC outbox is answered automatically, reducing friction during the IC send process.

  11. As a system administrator, I want to enable IC for Web Orders so that sales orders released through any channel (not just the manual Release action) trigger the IC purchase order creation, supporting e-commerce and EDI integration scenarios.

  12. As a system administrator, I want to verify that the Intercompany Setup is complete — IC Partner Code set, IC Company Type set to Sales Company, and Default Buy-From Vendor No. populated — before I configure IC Partner web service credentials, so that the partner setup step proceeds against a fully initialised base configuration.

  13. As a system administrator, I want to review and adjust the Purchasing Code that the wizard created — confirming it is marked as Drop Shipment and flagged for Intercompany — so that purchase lines inherit the correct fulfilment behaviour automatically.

  14. As a system administrator, I want to decide during the wizard whether to create Item Vendor entries for all items, so that I can control whether items are immediately linked to the IC Supply vendor or whether I prefer to manage those entries item by item.

  15. As a system administrator, I want to configure Receipt posting date on the IC Setup page — choosing between Original, Workdate, and Document Date — so that purchase receipts are posted with the date that matches our accounting policy.

Field Reference

The following fields appear on the Intercompany Setup page when the Intercompany app is active and the company is configured as a Sales Company. Fields are grouped as they appear on the page.

General

Field Purpose
IC Partner Code The code that identifies this company to its intercompany partners. Set during the Assisted Setup wizard and must match the partner code configured in the Supply Company.
IC Company Type Indicates whether this company is a Sales Company, a Supply Company, or a Sales & Supply Company. Set automatically by the wizard; drives field visibility and processing logic throughout the app.
Dimension Handling Controls how dimensions flow between the sales order and the corresponding purchase order. None uses legacy Map-to IC Dimension Code/Value mapping; 1-1 passes dimension values through automatically.

Sales

Field Purpose
Auto Release Combined Invoice When enabled, the sales invoice document produced by the Combined Invoice functionality is automatically released and ready for posting.

Purchase

Field Purpose
Default Buy-From Vendor No. The vendor that represents the Supply Company. Purchase orders generated by the IC process are directed to this vendor by default. Populated automatically by the wizard.
Receipt posting date Determines the posting date used when a purchase receipt is created from an IC transaction. Options are Original (keep the date on the inbound document), Workdate (use today's work date), and Document Date (use the document date).

Automatics

Field Purpose
Auto Transfer Outbox Transactions When enabled, an IC outbox transaction is exported to the partner automatically as soon as it is created, without requiring a manual transfer action.
Auto Accept Outbox Export Confirmation When enabled, the system automatically accepts the confirmation prompt that appears when exporting from the IC outbox, removing the manual click.

Features

Field Purpose
IC for Web Orders When enabled, any sales order that is released — regardless of how the release is triggered — initiates the IC purchase order flow. When disabled, only orders released via the manual Release action in the UI trigger the IC process.
